Ford classifies a vehicle as commercial if:
(a) it is used primarily for business or government purposes, including by an individual or multiple drivers of any government agency or municipality;
(b) it is used in a farm, delivery, or construction business;
(c) it is designated by the selling Dealer as a vehicle sold for Commercial Use when the sale is reported to the vehicle’s manufacturer;
(d) it is used as a for-hire car transportation (i.e., ride share) or food delivery mobile apps, including but not limited to, Uber, Uber Eats, Lyft, etc.
Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicles reported sold with delivery codes: 3, 4, 6, 7, D, E, H, L, M, S, T, and number are classified as commercial. The same plans -- Ford Protect PremiumCARE, ExtraCARE, BaseCARE and PowertrainCARE Plans -- available for personal use are offered for the commercial vehicles with an automatic commercial use surcharge included in the price. These plans include the standard rental allowance, roadside assistance and transferrable coverage. Enhanced Rental and First-Day Rental options are available for new and used vehicles. Ford Protect ESP commercial coverages are available with $0, $50, $100 and $200 deductibles.
New Specialty Vehicles only, regardless of body style, are also eligible for coverage with an assessed surcharge. Specialty Vehicles include emergency, security, police, fire, limousine, funeral and shuttle (Ford E- and F-Series) vehicles. Taxis, racing and modified vehicles are NOT eligible for any Ford Protect ESP coverage.
Incomplete vehicles are manufactured to support additional modification for particular uses. In many instances, these vehicles are known as cutaways, chassis cabs, stripped chassis, stake trucks, cherry pickers and dump trucks, to name a few. Eligible competitive makes include only Incomplete Chevrolet, Dodge, GMC, Nissan and Toyota brands.
Ford Motor Company manufactures these vehicles with unique vehicle identification number (VIN) designations. On Ford products, such incomplete vehicles will have a VIN that starts with one of the following designations: 1FC, 1FB, 1FD, 1F6 and 3FR. These vehicles are eligible for ONLY Incomplete (cab and chassis/cutaway) Ford Protect plans.
Some Ford E-Series vehicles, however, built with incomplete VIN designations are NOT classified as Incomplete. E-Series vehicles with Body Codes E1B, E1E, E2E, E3B, E3E, S1E, S2E, S3B and S3E are NOT considered Incomplete vehicles.
Cab and chassis/cutaway vehicles considered as Incomplete by Ford are eligible for Incomplete Ford Protect PremiumCARE, ExtraCARE, BaseCARE and PowertrainCARE ESP, as well as Premium Maintenance Plans. The Ford ESP plans are available with $0, $100 or $200 deductible per visit, up to $200 towing reimbursement, roadside assistance, rental car allowance of $30 per day up to 10 days and emergency travel expense reimbursement of up $1,000/up to 5 days for expenses (lodging, meals and rental vehicle) when more than 100 miles from home on both new and used vehicles. Only Incomplete PremiumCARE ESP Plans are available with an Interior/Exterior Lighting Option, but Key Services are NOT offered with any Ford Incomplete ESP plans.
No vehicle inspection is required when Incomplete Plan coverage is purchased on vehicles between zero and 36,000 miles. However, Incomplete Plans bought on vehicles between 36,000 and 100,000 miles must be purchased within 5 years and 100,000 miles (4,000 hours) of the warranty start date with a vehicle inspection by a Ford dealership. Coverage terms are offered from 3 years/75,000 miles/3,000 hours to 7 years/150,000 miles/6,000 hours.
Medium Duty Trucks
Medium Duty Ford trucks coverage include 2016 or newer F-650 and F-750 models. Medium Duty Ford Protect Extended Service Plans (ESP) provides owners with protection against expensive breakdowns and peace of mind using Ford authorized parts and service.
The available PremiumCARE, BaseCARE and PowertrainCARE Plans cover repair and replacement of cover components for earliest time, mileage or hours selected. Under these plans factory-trained, certified technicians replace covered parts that failed due to normal wear, mechanical breakdowns, workmanship and defective component material. The Medium Duty ESP Plans limit the out-of-pocket expenses for covered repairs to the $0, $100 or $200 deductible of your choice.
Medium Duty Ford Protect ESPs also provide roadside assistance, towing reimbursement up to $200 per occurrence, emergency travel expense up to $1,000 within 5 days of the occurrence and destination assistance of up to $75. The plans are cancellable and transferable for a small fee (varies by state), but do NOT include Key Services.
